Privacy and website statistics

River SRL uses limited website statistics to understand which pages are useful and improve Florence Companion. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in improving this guide, with safeguards to minimise the impact on visitors.

We count successful public page requests, not unique visitors. We use no analytics cookies, tracking scripts, fingerprints or visitor identifiers. We do not build browsing histories. The request’s user agent is used briefly to estimate whether it came from a person or an automated client, then discarded.

For an approximate country, the server masks the IP address to a shared network address (IPv4 /24 or IPv6 /48) before querying IPinfo. IPinfo never receives the page URL or the full visitor IP address. IPinfo Inc. processes these masked lookups in the United States under its data processing agreement, including EU standard contractual clauses. Masked addresses are not treated as a guarantee of anonymity.

Full IP addresses are not saved by this analytics system. Masked network-to-country results are cached in server memory for up to one hour. We keep separate page, country and traffic counts, without joining those measures into visitor records. Measures below 100 views are grouped as Other; daily aggregates are retained for 400 days and monthly archives for five years. Restarts can fold additional small measures into Other.

The controller is River SRL. Contact info@riverdesign.eu about privacy or to exercise applicable rights of access, correction, erasure, restriction or objection. You can lodge a complaint with the Italian data protection authority (Garante). We do not make decisions about individuals or use these statistics for advertising. We do not keep identifiers to recognise you later, so we cannot retrieve an individual browsing history. This notice covers statistics; essential administration cookies and security operations serve separate purposes.
