The wall on Via degli Alfani, now covered in fish, was built in 1964 to protect the University of Florence’s Department of Literature and Philosophy.
The wall had a practical rather than artistic purpose, helped by the street bench along its base.
A few years ago an unknown decorator began adding drawings of small fish, which grew ever more numerous as other anonymous fish artists joined in.
The result today is a large mural: a sea of fish swimming across the yellow background of the wall on Via degli Alfani.
