San Niccolò Tower stands in Piazza Poggi. Now isolated from the walls, the gate was built in 1324 to defend the Oltrarno district. It is Florence’s only tower never to have been cut down from its original height. It retains an atmospheric walkway made safe for residents and visitors. About 160 steps lead to the top and a 360-degree view of Florence, with unfamiliar perspectives. The route is recommended for children and teenagers, whose climb becomes a journey through time, ending with the discovery of a surprising new view of the city.
