Giuseppe Poggi envisaged Piazza Vittorio Veneto as the entrance to the Cascine Park. At its centre stands the equestrian statue of Victor Emmanuel II. The monument, designed by sculptor Emilio Zocchi in 1890, was originally intended for Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, now Piazza della Repubblica. The statue was moved to its present location in Piazza Vittorio Veneto in 1932.
